FARLOFT POEM

Once upon a time
In a land far away,
Lived a dragon named Farloft
Who would sing and dance all day.

Plenty was the food
And rivers did abound,
Days were always fun
When Farloft was around.

Quickly, he grew up
Very handsome was he,
Always happy and
Grinned toothily.

From high upon a cliff
The land stretched far and wide,
Farloft learned to soar
And exactly how to glide.

Then one day
Dark clouds loomed,
The volcano rumbled hard
The land was doomed.

Flying low and swiftly
to avoid cinder and ash,
Looking ahead the family landed
On a patch of greenest grass.

The land was fair
And trails did wind,
They searched high and low
Another home to find.

Farloft grew lonely
But there he met Clearair,
With a happy dance, he took a chance
And love filled the air.

Sun now shining
And flying over the glade,
He lighted upon a hillside
And forever there, he stayed.

WELCOME

Welcome to my new blog and thank you for stopping by. I sincerely hope you enjoy reading some fun seasonal poetry; nothing on the level of Shakespeare here - just fun thoughts to stir up cozy winter memories for you.

To give you a little history, I love winter-time. I'm from south central Texas where snow eluded us for the most part. When it did get cold, it didn't last very long and would be good sweater weather, but we did have and use coats, too. Today, my family back home turn on air conditioners by end of February and runs them usually from October to early November. On the very rare occasion when it did snow, our little snowmen were partially made of the grass blades underneath.

I remember, as a child, to see snow we had to wait and hope Christmas cards would come in the mail with beautiful, snowy scenes on them. We'd drink mom's home-made hot chocolate and read through the cards. That was about the only way we'd ever get to see snow.

Today, I live in the Missouri Ozark mountains where we get plenty of snow, although not every year, {we actually get pretty much a full four seasons here} and I actually get to live those "snowy scenes" from the old Christmas cards. It is my childhood experiences that provide the fuel for my seasonal poetry.

As my editor noted, she loves the "cold" theme I've chosen; it has a certain warm, cozy, and inviting, heartwarming feel about it, and I hope you feel the same warm invitation to sit down on a hot day, or cold, and cozy up with a favorite drink and dream of cooler days and frolicking in the snow with friends, neighbors, and an occasional squirrel or two.

At some point in my hopefully near future, I'll be adding my novels. Touchdown in Waverly is finished and I'm still working on the cover image after which I should be able to release it. So, please check back often for updates on my book blog at aswrites01.blogspot.com.

In recent years, I invited author friends Theresa Snyder, Iona Morrison, and Kaye Kelly to write a little short story, we affectionately called The Gift and offered it free as our way of saying thanks to all our readers and supporters. This little story is about real, true, friendship in holiday style and is still available. Just email me and I'll send you the PDF. It's charming and delightful and it will definitely warm your heart.

I'd love to read your thoughts on my poems, so please feel free to comment. I'll get back to you usually right away.

Thanks again for stopping by, have a wonderfully blessed day.

Alexia
